Dear Mom and Dad,
I was going to do this separately but it didn’t seem appropriate. You both have always done things together so I will do this the same way.
Thank you for being mine. I am proud to call you my parents and couldn’t be here without you.
Thank you for raising such a stubborn and hard headed person. I can be quite a handful and I have you to thank for that. I settle for nothing less than what I want and I am proud of that.
Thank you for putting me in sports and letting me make my own choice when it was time.
Thank you for supporting my decision to stick with gymnastics. Through all the pain, x-rays, MRIs, surgery, money, leotards, traveling, and tears you never gave up on me. You taught me to respect my teammates, coaches, and friends and I made it as far as I could possibly go.
Thank you for letting me go. I went to a school 800 miles away where I knew no one. I learned so much about myself through your support. You weren’t always physically there, but you always knew what was going on.
Thank you for the harsh punishments. I may have hated them at the time but completely deserved them. You taught me that consequences are inevitable.
Thank you for the kind and gentle words when I need them the most. You always seem to say the right things at the perfect time. I have never met anyone with wiser thoughts or better advice.
Thank you for guiding me in the right direction no matter how many times I found myself going down the lesser path. You somehow steered me the right way without me actually realizing it. When I fought back you didn’t back off, you pushed harder.
Thank you for my sister, who will always be my best friend. I couldn’t have a more supportive, loving, and caring person to share blood with.
Thank you for accepting my friends. The ones I bring around anyway. They appreciate me and therefore appreciate you for making me who I am.
Thank you for hating the same people I hate. It’s crucial to have my back and you always have. Even if I hate someone for all the wrong reasons, you hate them just the same.
Thank you for offering to kill anyone who breaks my heart (I do believe you would go through with it if I asked). I have yet to actually inquire, but I have a few people in mind.
Thank you for showing me the TV production world. You are top notch producers, writers, and directors. I aspire to work as hard as you in whatever I do.
Thank you for showing me it’s never too late to learn something new. You’re constantly taking new classes, teaching new classes, trying new things, and loving it.
Thank you for teaching me that change sucks, but it’s a part of life. I never like it, but I accept it every time it comes my way.
Thank you for being excited for me when something good comes along, and sad when something bad happens. You were the first people I called when I got a new job and no one was as excited as the both of you. You are the first ones I call when something bad happens and no one consoles me as well as the both of you.
Thank you for coming to save me at the drop of a hat. When my cat dies, or I get a flat tire, or when I need a partner in NYC, or I just need to talk. You are there every single time without hesitation.
Thank you for teaching me not to give a fuck. The minuscule, first world problem type things are not something to fret over. As long as I’m healthy, happy, and doing the best I can; I’ll be alright.
Thank you for teaching me when to give a fuck. There are things to worry about, and I know the difference. I know when something is important and when I really have to care.
Thank you for teaching me that traveling is important. You have had many “trips of a lifetime” and I want to experience that too. You continue to remind me that there are so many other people, cultures, and ways of thinking to learn from.
Thank you for showing me what true love looks like. I will never settle for anyone less than the love each of you have for each other. It’s inspiring and rare (that’s probably why I’m still single. I blame you).
Thank you for still being here. You may not have total control over it, but it’s important none-the-less. I don’t know what I would do without having you on this Earth.
Thank you for being my parents. I love you.
